Expiration dates, again.

I have several bags of 5% dextrose that have a 02/2026 expiration date. I have kept them stored in a black plastic container in a 70° climate controlled closet. They have been stored with nothing else but other bags of IV solution and a cardboard box that they came in. I'm not wanting to use them a year from now or anything, but I know I'm not going to be able to burn through them by their expiration date.

How certain is the expiration?
Could I use them into March or April?

The main reason I ask is because I spent a bit to obtain them, and I don't like just throwing them away and wasting it. Also they're not the easiest thing to obtain myself. I can imagine them just spoiling shorty after the expiration

I’m not a medical professional but I wouldn’t be concerned over 30-90 days. I have an empty 1,000 ml bag of d5 that expired four years ago and that I have kept with the IV attached and capped.
It still shows no signs of contamination in the few drops that I couldn’t get out of it 5 years ago. Maybe even a year is probably safe enough but at some point you have to ask yourself how much are your balls worth? I have the opposite problem. Keeping it on hand.
Or maybe you could sell it or give it away before it expires.

Mindesthalbarkeitsdatum ist der richtige Ausdruck . So wie bei Lebensmitteln , bis zu diesem Datum müssen sie in Ordnung sein und sind es auch noch viel länger.
