Question about seal

I am new to pumps and just got my stj today but I don't have a silicone seal. I was wondering if this would have any effect on pumping?

A seal will make pumping more comfortable by adding a bit of padding between your crotch and the cylinder. It will also help with keeping a seal against your body. With a good seal, you don’t have to keep it in a precise position against your body.
