Catheters for piercings

Post by Bobbybass »

Has anyone used catheters made for piercings to do infusions? They are sterile. Appear to have the same end on them as iv catheters that would attach to the iv line. The only thing I'm wondering is the plastic sheathing. Maybe the piercing ones are stiffer or more ridged and not suitable for infusions.
Just curious because the are readily available online, and easier to order. Amazon has all kinds listed. Be so much easier than ordering from a medical supply store. And are also cheaper.

I have, they don't look like they're any different than any other.

I use a pressure cuff and some of them have leaked under the increased pressure. I noticed that the ones that leaked didn’t have the cannula inserted as far. My bag is very thick so it takes a great deal of force to insert and remove it and the cannula came out of the administration line so fortunately I have hemostats on hand and quickly removed it without infection.
So I look for the ones with the largest gap between the end of the cannula and the bevel of the needle. They have leaked three times with one box of 50 but I let it drip into a bowl and got 95%+- of it in. It’s more of an annoyance and so far I haven’t had any issues with the current carton of them.

What size do you us? I usually use 20g.
I was thinking of using these for surgilube as well. I usually have no issues pushing through the 20g. I'm just wondering if I should get 18g maybe.

So the tube isn't any stiffer or anything like that on these that you've noticed? I was just worried they may be a harder type of plastic or something.

Ok I think I'll give them a try. I just re read your response and noticed the pressure cuff part. Maybe I'll be fine with the 20g then.
I'd rather use as small as possible. Just for easy of insertion and then sealing it afterwards.
