Safe way for reducing concentration of Dextrose

Post by NebbyBalloon »

So! I've been infusing for around a year at this point, I found a site that has a listing for 20 500ml of Dex 30 for the equivalent of 80 bucks (palace's local in my country, doubt y'all could buy it)

I've heard that 30% is *too* much as it can cause skin necrosis, ofc that's a very big downside but I have read here before that people dilute the concentration, how do you all do this? I'm very curious because if diluting it is relatively easy I can imagine buying the box would set me for a long time.

30% IS too much. Do not inject that without diluting it.

The issue with products like this is maintaining sterility. The contents of each small container MUST remain sterile after use. Nobody is using all 500ml of D30 on any given day unless they're a vet.

I'm not instructing you on what to do. BUT if someone used a syringe and needle to pull a small amount of D30 and add it to another solution, it could theoretically be safe to infuse.

1 liter of 5% dextrose (D5) contains 50 grams of dextrose within 1000ml of sterile water.
There's a classic chemistry formula: c1v1=c2v2
5%*1000ml = 30%* X. Solve for X? X ~ 166.6ml

So, 166.6ml of D30 contains roughly as much dextrose as a liter of D5. (we can confirm this by multiplying 30% and 166.6ml to get roughly 50g) Note: adding 166ml of fluid to 1000ml of another fluid results in a total 1166 fluid volume, which is probably too much for a standard 1000ml bag to hold. NEVER infuse Sterile Water on its own : it WILL fuck up your tissues. Best to discard ~150ml first; none of this "good to the last drop" foolishness.

Also noteworthy: adding 166ml of D30 to a liter of saline would result in roughly 1166 of D5NS (5% dextrose in Normal Saline). Infusing 150ml of saline to make room for additional fluid would be only as dangerous as saline infusions tend to be, which as we all know should only be performed by trained professionals.

So, anyway, you know, I'm just doing some recreational mathematics on a spring day. To others who might be reading this: if you can't do your own mathematics then don't play with fire :)

Funnily enough I do have syringes and needles so I could do something similar, tho I'm aware the sterility of it is an issue. A shame I'm no good at math however lol.

Technically speaking I was thinking in using a syringe and fill it with saline then topping said syring with a bit of dex to dilute it, but it's definetly way too high of a concentration for it to be safe to keep. Since I'm positive it'll become unsterilized pretty fast
