How did you like trying it? Each time I've done it, I've had an intense HFO.
After I had my first successful inflation, the things I wanted to try were: full inflation of scrotum and penis; penis only; and finally foreskin only. Foreskin only has been my favorite so far.

I did different inflations depending where I put the needle and the tie-off... I did a foreskin-inflation by putting the tie off just behind the foreskin, and putting the needle into the outside layer of the foreskin.

You can definitely inflate too fast, but I don't think you can inflate too slow. Personally I prefer a slow inflation. Let's me enjoy the feeling and the visual longer.

Without any tie off at all, I can imagine you'll get migration into your abdominal cavity. I've never tried without a tie off.
