i had this error trying to reply to a pm, what does it mean?

I have this too and it's killing the motivation to be on the forum. You write a post, perhaps a long one and then THIS. It's a NO GO.
Moderators, could you please do something about it?

update: I just discovered that removing the word peni$ from the post, solves the issue.

Perhaps the board settings could be changed a bit?

I'm getting the error on replies, thought it had to do with lenght but indeed is because of some words....

YEP it's those nasty words like c*ck and peni$ etc. that prompt the FORBIDDEN sign. Kind of like the reason we are here...

You can add adult to the list

The problem was created when the phpbb software was recently updated.

I don't see this being related to certain words in posts - but maybe it is? I tried some test posts with various words and none got this error message?

We don't have "word censoring" enabled (never have that'd be just dumb ) - so I don't really think the error has anything to do with certain words.
What were you doing when you got the error? and why do you think it had to do with the use of certain words in your post?

I got the error when doing a search - with no adult words... so I really don't think it has anything to do with the words. It seems to be sort of random when submitting forms.

I'm having a hard time recreating the error so hard to fix it...
