Someguyoverthere, couldn't have said it better myself. We are all learning from each other and posting the results online for others to see. What works and what to avoid.

I understand the concern. SOme people here post some things that make them seem reckless of may have mental issues.

I think many of us are having a good time and are VERY careful.

Perhaps we ban anyone purposely being dangerous?

This entire forum in all topics should be blocked for people under 18 years of age and should only be allowed for registered people.

Report those posts so we admins can take a look at them :)

This. Letting self harm fester should not be tolerated in any society. I hope admin locks and deletes that thread and points the user to self harm resources before banning him.

I've never even looked in that forum in 10 years but that is highly disturbing.

Nothing lasts forever! I envy the stability of the forum administration all these years! I'm grateful for the feedback! Leave the forum still available for viewing after closing with a warning of the last day of the site's operation and give access to one topic where people can say goodbye, or communicate and discuss something for the last time, the latest news of progress, so what.

Thank you

admin wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 1:51 am The discussion of people injecting all sorts of things - or doing all kinds of risky things that could maime them, leave them disfigured, cause illness or even kill them trouble me. I fear some young person coming here, reading a few posts from others who have claimed "success" in doing something and trying it themselves because they feel reassured by "advice" they are receiving here. I read about some guy who is regularly injecting ky jelly into his testicles... or people that try to make their own at home "sterile solution" for self injection in their home kitchens. Things like this trouble me.
If you notice or have noticed the boards are largely not moderated. So the first response from people is just "well let's just moderate it" and remove "certain" posts. I have resisted taking that approach for years - at some point years ago I gave up on the extremely time consuming effort to "control" what was going on - on the boards - with people arguing or having stupid fights with each other. I'm not looking to go back into that. The board is free and has always been - but this particular subforum is about a particularly dangerous aspect. There is nothing but potential liability here for me. I picture some young guy visiting it - reading some of the posts here where every one is encouraging him to do something that is very dangerous (you see it all the time - the excited people who want to see pictures! "pictures please!!" "looks amazing" etc etc etc) and the kid ends up dying or something, and then the family comes looking to blame someone for it. I'm not 4chan - and I'm not operating this for profit and I'm not implementing any of the crazy "protections" sites like that do in order to protect themselves from liability issues. So for me this is all risk and zero gain...
I'm sure the users would find other sites to migrate to - I'm not delusional that this site/forum is the only place people have to discuss such things...
The site has been running since 1996. I'm older by a lot now and have less patience or empathy or desire to take unnecessary risks for the sake of "making others happy" Sorry guys...

I completely agree with you, it's time to retire, there's a time for everything! You're a legendary person

I disagree with boomer_mod wholeheartedly. Retiring this forum would lead to a significant loss of information. There’s quite literally at least a decade of information. I would like in shutting this forum down to the burning of the Library of Alexandria.

If anything handing over the site to someone else would make the most sense.

My two cents is that it's better for information to be freely available for the purposes of harm reduction. People are going to try things, safe or not, and it would be a disservice to take away resources they could use to be safe.

Removing an entire forum and years of shared information because you're uncomfortable feels like overkill.

I agree with others, if you no longer want a part in it, pass the torch on. Add bigger disclaimers and make best practice resources more visible. There are more avenues to take.

I'm not a big player in this forum but I'd be bummed to see it go.

This would bring me and many others great sadness. As others have said, I think it's actually better to have this repository of knowledge so that newcomers can read the experiences and learn from the mistakes of others. Removing the forum probably won't stop people from making risky decisions, it will just isolate them from others who can help steer them away from those decisions.

Heya admin, I would like to give my POV in that this site has been an honest godsend for me on knowing not only the dangers of common use but what's safe on the same flip of the coin. To my knowledge, everyone's that followed my type of practice hasn't run into any issues and without that knowledge I honestly do believe those numbers would be far greater. I don't have anywhere else to get this information, I've been looking for a decade and this is it. If it gets taken down, I don't believe we'll have another source of safety.

Please, please don't shut this forum down. Let's work on managing it to be a safer resource.
