Re: pumping bignlow
Wednesday night pump in three parts. The first around 35/40 mins, the second around 35/40 mins again and the third around the 1 hour mark, with a middle section on very low vac', around 2hg, just enough to keep the tube on and then ramped it up a bit towards the end.
Something a little different, these photos are in three's. first session, second and then third, all similar, ish photo's to show the progress through the night. Again, i wanted to pump a lot longer but just run out of time, early start today.
1st session 2nd 3rd
1st session
2nd 3rd Apologies, awful photo that.

and a few random ones from last night. Strange haw the odd photo here and there won't upload when they are al taken at the same time with the same phone !
That's it for this week. For those of you who have been reading from the beggining will know that i am in the process of refurbing a race car. Well, it's all but finished and as part of the deal i'm to race it this coming Sunday. Don't want a big sack in the way of the crutch strap. I need them to be nice and loose for Sunday so i can shove em down a leg and keep them out of the way !

Re: pumping bignlow
Amazing photos as always! You mentioned earlier in this thread about your modifications to the tubes so you have the narrower entrance. I was curious as to how you made these, as it obviously helps with that incredible teardrop shape you've got going. Any tips on how I might alter my LongJonny? It already has a removable silicon cushion, but it doesn't stretch more than an inch or so down the tube.
I found the following response, and I may be a bit slow on the uptake, but could you maybe step by step it for the non-engineers?

SF ballpumper.
if you mean the silicone at the edges of the tube sleeves, i use a caulking gun to fill the difference between the tube sizes and then get a small piece of plastic with a sraight edge, lay it across the joint and roll the tube on a table. The plastic edge removes the excess and fills in any gaps leaving a nice taper for ease of getting out and takes the inner tube edge away for comfort. In the bigger tubes i can do this through the entry but the smaller ones are done through the bottom of the tube before the end cap is put on.

Hi, nice pics. I wonder what white substance you do in the water, and does it help to have faster results by pumping?

Re: pumping bignlow
Vincenzo. All my tubes are custom made. If you can imagine, i start with for example a 60mm straight tube, it has a 5mm wall. The next tube will be a short length ( about 3 inches) of 60mm tube with a 70mm tube over the top. The entry then is already smaller than the main tube. Next is start at 60, sleeve over with 70 ( about 1 1/2 inches) and then sleeve that with 80mm. When that gets tight to get out of the next tube will start at 70mm sleeved with 80 and the next 70 to 80 to 90 and so on. Where the tubes go into each other inside i fill the step with silicone and using a straight edge smooth off and remove the excess. this gives a nice taper to the edges and helps with getting out of the tube. It also acts as a secondary seal to the joint where the two tubes are put together. The tubes are stuck together with plastic glue. The two jars i have are way too big for me to use as they are so i use silicone to reduce the entry. I use glazing silicon as it grips glass like no ones business. It's awkward and messy but basically you just pile in the silicone a layer at a time, smooth off and apply another layer till i get to the desired entry diameter. Down in the jar at the adge of the silicone i taper it off to the jar, again it helps with getting out. Bear in mind though that a lot of silicone at that sort of depth can take ages to go off sometimes three weeks but it's worth the wait.
Jazzik, the white substance in the water is no mystery. I lub' up with copious amounts of after sun and similar moisturisers including the neck of the tube. The white in the water is just the lub' dissolving into it over the time of the pump.
Hope that answers your questions boys.

Re: pumping bignlow
Thanks for the reply bignlow. A closer inspection of your tube photos made it a bit clearer too. I've now 'adapted' my 10x4 LJ cylinder with a 3" long 3" section at the entrance. I see what you mean about the silicon taking a while to set. Will be a little while before I'm happy it's smooth and solid enough to use, but thanks so much for the info, and of course....the inspiration!
