1st time infusion,

Post by nutT »

This morning I did my first infusion with 500 ml of lactated ringers. I ordered this by mistake. But I did some research and found no reason not to use it. I used a 22 gauge needle it seemed like this was really slow.
When you experienced people remove the needle what do you find is the best way to block the hole to stop the leak. I used a dab of supper glue and a piece of Kleenex. I held it until it was stuck very well but with some movement it started to leak and I really could not get it to stop. What else should I use?

I use firm pressure with a folded gauze pad for 15 minutes... then I place some liquid bandage by New Skin on there and place a bandaid over top of it tightly to keep the pressure on it.... Sometimes if its stubborn, I grab a fresh gauze pad and fold it into a smaller square and place it over top the Liquid Bandage and tape it down tightly with medical tape.
