With 20 years of posts there is bound to be actual useful information in here somewhere (LOL) and it would be a shame for it to just poof out of existence one day due whatever circumstances. Obviously best practice would be to exclude any addresses, email or otherwise, and other sensitive personal info and leaving out image attachments from the archived copy just for the sake of the archive size is also a given.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Good suggestion... actually yes it is frequently backed up in more than one way.
