I only fill the tube up 1/2 to 2/3 full and then keep the end with the fitting angled higher so that the air pocket stays at the top and doesn't suck water in. We've tried it with a full tube and a water trap in the pump hose but this is just as easy with fewer parts.
The tube is one of his first cock tubes he ever used. Since it's too narrow for him now, he cut a section out of the middle and reattached the original top. It's much more comfortable than having the full length hanging off me with the weight of the water in it.
