Start slow with 500ml. Then when you are comfortable add another 500ml.
Put some time between your infusions. Wait at least 24 hours between infusions.
After you do this a couple of times, you will know how far you can go.

I always start with 1L (I use D5, Saline and D5N9 can really sting for me)
I can now add 2L at a time after the first Liter.
This has taken a year to accomplish.

I regularly pumped to 15" round when I first infused. I took 1 liter my first infusion. and 15" = 38.1 cm

we can do some quick algebra (while high), here goes:
Circumference = 2πr ; circ = 38.1 cm which gives a radius = 6.0638cm

Volume = 4/3 X π X r^3
volume = 4 / 3 * 3.14159 * 222.9639 = 933.95 ml volume.
(want to know how many times I've done this calculation? enough that I can do the math while high) ;)

so, if you can pump up to 15" you can take roughly a liter of infusion volume. Roughly.
Take as much as you feel you can: If it's drippin' you're sippin'.

Cheers,
Russ.
