Well, years later and I finally assembled a working electric pump from your instructions! Used a Bellababy Duo, which provided more than enough suction without also using an aquarium pump, but only worked a day because moisture from the cylinder (water-based lube) got pulled into the motor/electronics. Any advice on keeping moisture from being drawn into the tubing?

You need a siphon cylinder from a break bleeder kit. You can pick them up from eBay or Amazon fairly cheaply.

To stop moisture I use paper towel. Make a small inline filter with a small pill bottle or something similar with an in and out outlets and stuff with paper towel. You want as much paper as you can get in the bottle without restricting the flow of air/vacuum. This will adsorb any moisture in the line. Just change out paper towel after each pump session or when it gets wet.
