t is completely normal for the urethra to burn a little when you start sounding. But this gets better as the urethra gets used to the new strain. If you work cleanly and use plenty of sterile lubricant, it gets better each time. It's good if you use metal dilators as a beginner, they glide better than silicone or rubber dilators and therefore don't irritate the urethra as much. Before use, I wipe the dilator with a paper tissue soaked in isopropyl alcohol 70%. One to two hours of stretching a day is definitely enough. But you won't be able to do this every day because of the pain. It is better to take a break of several days between stretching sessions and only continue when the pain no longer occurs. I always increase in 0.5 mm increments with Hegar dilators. If you increase too quickly, there is a risk of cracks appearing. The resulting scar tissue is difficult to stretch. So far I have reached 13 mm I started at 6 mm diameter. Of course, I also have a narrow area in the external urethral meatus that has to be laboriously stretched. A meatotomy doesn't help either. The external urethral meatus consists of solid connective tissue. I have so far stretched my meatus externum to a diameter of 18mm. A pain gel is helpful if the diameter increases. I use Xylocaine Gel 2%, which is also used as a lubricant. Of course you have to be careful not to go too hard, otherwise you could injure yourself because you feel less pain. So just increase the diameter slowly. For a 0.5 mm increment it takes me about 2 to 3 months; dilators with a hole are hard to find in this size. When I want to urinate or ejaculate, I simply take the dilator out and then reinsert it. Pushing and turning the dilator back and forth doesn't help either, and only leads to micro-tears which then slow down the desired result. You can only move forward with patience. Of course, the Hegar sound can also slide in completely. That also happened to me before. I then pulled the sound out again using pliers. It is better if you attach a string to the end of the sound, which then hangs out of the meatus. Then you can easily extract the sound.
