2- or 3-Stage Cylinder

Post by Rhamiel »

1-stage cylinder squashes base of shaft if balls are included as well. :(

Not sure whether to go for a 2-stage cylinder, e.g.:

...or a 3-stage cylinder, e.g.:

Do any experienced pumpers have any suggestions as to which to go for? I want to be able to get out of the thing once pumped! :P

Advantage of 3-stage seems to be that design focus is on affecting shaft length more than width.

I had a 2 stage and got rid of and now have a custom made by Thickwall 3 stage, far better for me. Has a bigger opening to get the packed unit out. My 3 stage is 3.5" opening x 1" 1st stage , 6" x 4" 2nd stage, 2.5" x 4" 3rd stage. Use warm water with. Think I should of gone with a smaller 3rd stage, maybe a 2" wide as it's hard to try pack out the last 1/4 of the shaft and head.

An expert said elsewhere that it was better to pump shaft and balls separately, because it gave better results than using a 3-stage.

My one concern is that this would take a lot longer, and one couldn't see and feel the effects of the pumping simultaneously.

Do those with experience of 3-stage tubes agree? :?
