Cheapo alternatives options for vacuum pumping cylinders

Post by Aardvark 777 »

Just starting a thread for items that are cheaper alternatives from the more expensive pump cylinders for guys like me that don't have a lot of money but would like to still have some decent, stable vacuum pumping cylinders.

Anyone else that has ideas or other examples please share also. I will post another one if I can find the link.

I just found this at Walmart.

It is called Mainstays Infusion Pitcher , https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Pitcher/525867090

It is a good one eighth inch acrylic and nearly exactly four inches diameter at the top opening. Not saying that it doesn't need some modification, as the spout would need to be cut off and some plastic glued in to patch the gap, but it is not that big of a gap and can be patched solidly if done right.

The largest diameter looks like about 6 and 3/4 inch and the 4" opening diameter extends for three inches before the widening angle.

It is about 9 and 3/4 inches long from top opening edge to the bottom.

It is 22.5 inches in circumference around the largest diam also.

All of the top sections (white plastic) and the clear filler cover and that inner clear plastic ice holder all come out freely.

It is very stout and should resist vacuum pressure quite well. A valve can be put into it wherever one prefers as it is uniformly same thickness all around except at bottom base where it is thicker at about 1/4 inch.

I am currently in process of doing modifications to get it up and running to test it.

https://www.amazon.com/Oggi-Acrylic-Air ... a+canister

Oggi pasta container. 12" long and 3.75" I.D., over 1/8th inch thick walls. very strong food grade acrylic.

https://www.amazon.com/Oggi-72-Ounce-Ac ... DT309ST2YW

Oggi 72oz. container. 9" X right about 5" wide. slightly less than 1/8th inch thick walls.

https://www.amazon.com/Acrylic-Dome-Pla ... KHD06J8Y3X

Also, a supplier for acrylic hemispheres with flanges, in a wide range of sizes.
May or may not be "cheap" in someones perspective, but for those that are handy, can build your own custom "monster" for less than it costs to buy the original product and paying 50.00- 70.00 in shipping.
anyway, with someone that can work plastics fair enough, one can make a great spheroid pump with as long or as wide of a entrance stage as ya like by adding your prefered tube entrance piece and cut out a section of the domes. then some extra flanging can be done with a bit of crafting.
