Meds and pumping dangers

Post by cookerf »

Hey all, quick question if I may: currently laid up w/a leg injury. The docs have me on a pretty powerful muscle relaxer <flexiril> and ketorolac for the pain. Does anyone know if either of these drugs would cause an issue w/pumping? Spending my time on the couch and thinking that it'd be a shame to stray from the routine, but w/that said, I don't feel like causing any damage either.

Any help is appreciated.

Muscle relaxants affect circulation by inhibition of parasympathetic and sympathetic ganglia, by anticholinesterase activity and by release of histamine.

Histamine causes most blood vessels to dilate, and hence causes a fall in the blood pressure.

Anticholinesterase activity is the inhibition of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase which prolongs the effects of Acetylcholine in the body.
Acetylcholine in the blood stream exerts a direct effect on vascular tone by increasing the production of nitric oxide, which signals the surrounding smooth muscle to relax, leading to vasodilation.

Thanks for the help!

Gonna take the high road and stay away until I'm healed. Looks like there could be some possibility in gains due to the vasodilation, but I'm gonna play it safe, I think.

Glad you are taking a break... meds might make you loopy enough where you would lose track of time and pump too long. Could also make you sort of unfocused enough to not check your gauge and pump with too much pressure.
