Electric Pump Assembly Question

Post by lakeguy78641 »

Bought a new electric pump from Newart and it looks like a good investment. Got instructions on operation of the pump, but no clue as how to connect the various valves shown. I do understand the basic air flow, but why is there a valve fitting on the air out side? Tubing included, but not pictured. Any ideas? Thanks.

About the needle valve

Post by doniger_guy »

About the needle valve.
It has got to be the means to limit the level of vacuum.

The degree of vacuum is probably controlled by the needle valve setting that you select at the exhaust port of the pump.
On my home made system I use a bypass set up. I have an extra port on the suction side.

This is how it works. The vacuum side on the pump connects to the first of 2 T's. My gauge comes off of that one. I then have a second T. I have a Parker flow control on that T port. The Parker has lots of turns to it just like your needle valve but it is easier to turn. Then the remaining connection of the second T goes the penis tube.
I can vary the degree of vacuum from almost zero to full vacuum by how much bypass is allowed to be sucked in to the Parker valve. One of the reasons that I did that is my pump is a 220volt one that I got on eBay. It is very loud so I put it in the closet and run the cord to a nearby unused air conditioner receptacle. I have a long poly one forth inch OD hose that goes to me about 20 feet away. If I put the Parker valve on the pump, I would nee the pump to be near me. To much cord and way too loud. My pump is also a killer pump. I do mean killer. It will go up to 28 inches of mercury. :o It is a double reed valve type pump.
I need to be very careful with it.

Doniger_guy
Hey Doniger. Thanks for your reply. Not sure I fully understand, but I'll experiment. Are you saying pressure is controlled by a valve on the exhaust side?

Yea ;)
Your system restricts the discharge/exhaust, hens the vacuum is controlled by the setting. I think :-/

doniger_guy
