I will 2nd this. Did it with my Tetra Whisper 60 almost 2yrs ago and still pumpingmRuss wrote:modifying the Tetra Whisper is easy enough: open up the unit, use a screwdriver to pry out the little square white block inside (that's where the air baffles are). be careful not to lose the tiny little gaskets that will come out with it. Rotate it 180 degrees and re-insert it. You're done (seriously, that's it) Attach tubing and go crazy.

Yeah, it's great. I could never pack consistently, and sometimes I'd give myself blood blisters, till I did this.

You can find a cheap regulator at most aquarium supply places. This one is plastic but I've seen brass ones, too.

It would appear that the TetraTec that you showed IS exactly the same as the Tetra Whisper that has been mentioned. It is a simple open it up by removing 4 screws and rotating the square valve unit 180 degrees as has been mentioned. Nothing could be simpler. The smaller, single outlet unit, will produce something like 6.5. The double unit (using a "T") would up the vacuum.

Re: Easy electric pump
Bought a Tetra pump at Walmart today. It is rated for 10-30 gallon tanks. It was the most expensive pump they carried in this store. Got home, did the conversion but very disappointed. The pump now sucks, but very tepid and anemic. Have I got the wrong Tetra? I read somewhere that the Rena pumps, specifically 200 ES and 301 ES, will actually such without doing a modification. True? What would the experts recommend here?

Re: Easy electric pump
I converted a 10-30 Tetra pump and it will produce 6 -7 Hgs, ample for most situations if airtightness in the system. Curious One, could you have lost some of the seals in the conversion as cautioned in an earlier note?Curious One wrote:Bought a Tetra pump at Walmart today. It is rated for 10-30 gallon tanks. Re: Easy electric pump
Took it apart again. All seals are in place. Maybe I simply got a defective pump originally. I think I'll exchange it, hopefully getting a bigger Tetra. This one was only rated for 10-30 gallons. There are several references in this thread about the Tetra 30-60. I'm assuming the "30-60" might be a larger pump. Wish me luck.

Re: Easy electric pump
Was reading through this thread and went searching the internet. I found petmountain was having a sale on the Tetra Whisper pumps, in case you can't find one at the local Wal-Mart, etc.
http://www.petmountain.com/product/aqua ... pumps.html
I'll take a look locally first but for the price of these pumps I can't see a reason not to have one.
Has anyone tried using one with a "Y" fitting for a buddy?
