Well I doubt that air pump is sterile.

The short answer is that it is horribly unsafe. Twofold risk: chance of air embolism (which is why smart inflaters use NO2 not air), and definitely not sterile as xzen has said. DON'T DO IT!!

Wow, so unsterilized...

But been thinking about doing N2O, only worry is inflating too fast and exploding... not joking!

How can you be sure of not overdoing it first spray?

Also it's food safe so it's sterile... right?

Any ideas for safe rigs doing this?

I do n2o all the time.
You will figure out how to control it very fast.
when I started I used electric tape to hold the needle to the end of the tubing(I did not have the right stuff to rig up with)
That would give long before you would.
The size of the needle is also very important. I use a very large needle compared to what most saline users use so that the n2o can enter more quickly.
It will simply not go but so fast though a needle.

As to using air, I did this once when I was younger.
Along with not being sterile it also gets sore as hell for days.
N2o is absorbed very nicely by the body but air is REALLY not.
