hey surfgar,
try to follow the directions that pumper john posted, it did work for me.

Make sure the pic is less than 80 X 80 pixels
Reply to a thread (possibly this one)
Attach your resized pic to it
Submit reply and check to make sure it has uploaded
Right click on the attached picture scroll down to “properties” on the appearing menu and copy the URL address line.
Then go to your profile page and paste the address in the box marked “Link to off-site Avatar” Submit, and you should go through.

The suggestion listed above did not work when I tried to attach a pic at this forum because there was no place that allowed an attachment.
I went to general pumping discussion and created a new topic and then posted my pic, right clicked and the copied and pasted the URL.
What a PITA. Also because if that pic gets deleted so does my avatar.
Good luck everybody.

Possible fix for admin

Postby cameo » Fri Oct 03, 2008 6:54 am

Either CHMOD needs to be 777 on the folder these uploads are going to or else Safe Mode on the server is enabled by the webhosting company. Another possibility is path is wrong in phpBB.

Hi guys,

Just a warning, and this seemed like a relevant enough place to put it.

Almost all of the avatars hosted for this site, and even most of the site graphics themselves seem to be tagged with a trojan. Avast is going nuts every time I open a new page, and I have to blog most of the avatars and forum graphics.

I hope one of my favourite boards hasn't been hacked :(.

to quote from the female pumping thread, where this has been discussed at some length.

Either way phpbb doesn't usually put .gif files in the root directory as it has its own /image directory deeper in the file structure.
Error 400 - Bad Request may simply mean badly coded link.
