when trying to upload an avatar i get the following error. it seems you will have to set CHMOD rights to avatar folder on your server.

Warning: copy(./images/avatars/213688617742e1fefe9e1c5.jpg): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/forums/public_html/phpbb/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 239

hi ipump,

the picsize was exactly 80x80 pixels, thats not the fault.
I tried to create a membersite some days and i tells me always that the entered email address is already in use - no what email you will enter, it will tell you always the same.

greetings..

Versuch's mal mit 79X79 und gib dem Bild einen anderen Namen. Bei mir hat's jedenfalls so gefunzt.

Similar problems here.

I was getting a set of erro messages:

However, Seahorses has a thread in the General Pumping forum about the problem - and has a solution.

It worked for me so check out the other forum.

Regards, Grumpy.

If the admin has access to the file manager, or ftp, he has to change the CHMOD permissions for the Avatar upload directory. "the server is basicaly saying we don't have permission to edit the header text."

Over an hour trying to upload a tiny photo--and FAILURE.
I tried the advice of others--FAILURE.
The AVATAR "feature" does not work
The management should have an operating system that re-sizes and uploads photos effortlessly.
I don't have time for incompetent technology.

This is what seahorses posted and it worked for me.

In case you are having problems and would like to try it, the steps are:
Make sure you are logged in
Make sure the pic is less than 80 X 80 pixels
Reply to a thread (possibly this one)
Attach your resized pic to it
Submit reply and check to make sure it has uploaded
Right click on the attached picture scroll down to “properties” on the appearing menu and copy the URL address line.
Then go to your profile page and paste the address in the box marked “Link to off-site Avatar”
Submit, and you should go through.
